The brief
Preserve the architecture. Replace everything behind it.
Designed in 1962 by architect Bob Ray Offenhauser, the Canon Drive residence represents a period of residential architecture that rewards careful stewardship. The clean horizontal lines, generous glazing, and indoor-outdoor integration that define mid-century contemporary design were all intact — but sixty years of systems-level aging had made the house unlivable by modern standards.
The owners came to YAF with a clear directive: bring every system into 2025 without touching the design language that made the home worth buying in the first place. New roof, new plumbing, new electrical, new HVAC — plus a full interior transformation including custom green marble kitchen, luxury bathrooms, parquet and herringbone flooring, and restored original details throughout.
Working alongside Consolidated Architects, YAF managed the full build — coordinating the tension between preservation and performance that makes mid-century renovations uniquely demanding. The flat roofline, post-and-beam structure, and floor-to-ceiling glass all needed systems work that had to remain invisible from the design side.
